Front propshaft CV joint issues

I've just lifted the ZJ 4" and there's a bad knocking coming from the CV joint (was fine before the lift)  I've got the CV angle down to about 2 - 3 degrees and stripped cleaned and repacked the CV. The UJ's on the double cardan are fine.

Any one any idea's?  Does the CV have to be dead straight?  It doesn't look like the cv is at full extention.

I was thinking about dropping the transfercase cross member an inch to straighten the cv joint right out.

Any one any ideas??

The CV joint doesn't have to be dead straight, but it doesn't have much flex designed into it and isn't as tough as a regular joint. Take the front prop off and make sure it is that causing the noise forst.

Usually if you lift your suspension 4" and above the angle on your prop is now too great and will cause a loud knocking / vibrating noise.
Happened on a mates rangie with a 5" lift usually under deceleration

Dropping your transfer or fitting a SYE will stop it.

I am sure someone more expert than I, will fill in any gaps I have missed, but I think this will confirm your suspicions  :wink:

I've taken the front prop off, and the noise goes, so the problem lies there. The quadra drive doesn't like not having a front prop connected though  :lol:

I'll try dropping the transfer case cross member and see what happens then  :?:

get a conventiona front prop and change the pinion yoke in the axle  8-)

Spoken to an ebayer who has a number of props and I'm going to measure to see which length zg prop I actually have. If I've a long one, there's a change that the shorter one will free the cv up whilst not effecting the pinions angle.
