Hi,

I have a leak coming from the very front of my Jeep as you look at it from the front. I think I have tacked this down to the transmission to oil cooler hose.

I have found a couple of hoses to replace my 2.

Can anyone tell me, is it an easy job?
Does anyone fancy a trip to Reading soon to help?
Is it easy to access the point where they go into the gearbox?

The car is a 1995 Cherokee 4.0l

i dont think its a bad job mate. just be ready to get oily. make sure you top your trans oil after the job mate.

I've just ordered replacement for my 98 and am doing it tomorrow or at the weekend.

They just bolt to the transmission but the radiator end uses a quick connect type fitting and I've been advised to use a fuel line / air con  line release tool like this:

I've ordered a set and can let you know how I get on if you'd like to wait. If you want I'll post you the tool and you can post it back when you're done but given the price it's probably similar cost just to buy.

As Greggmo says, I expect oil everywhere and will make sure I top it up to the correct level with Dexron III when I'm done.

I was looking to replace the entire hose, including the bit that screws into the rad!
Should I just be looking to replace the rubber hose that "clips" onto the metal part. If so, can I replace the oil seal that is in the plastic clip, or the plastic clip itself when I do the job?

Let me know how you get on and I'll attempt it once you've done it.

You will need the right hose for the job

The oil cooler runs at about 110

I'm replacing the hard lines on mine. From the gearbox forward - one goes to the radiator and one attaches to the auxillary cooler output line. Both attach with quick connects.

I'm picking up the lines from the dealer today (cheapest place!) and still waiting for the tool. I'll try to take some pictures and notes as I do the job.

I have repaired a crushed section of the hard line in the past by using power steering hose and double hose clamps either end. Now I've got a hole in the other hard line I thought it was time to replace both and do it properly.
