Your '97 should be a facelift. Are the front dor windows divided by a small black pillar? If so, you have a Mk1, if it's one big window, its a mk2, or facelift model. The taillight assembly are different between the 2 models.

Thanks Tim!

I've got the small black pillar (ie. front window is 2 parts.   1 that opens and one fixed) so it must havebeen registered late!

Cheers for the info, I'll get bidding!

Ok, you might want to adjust your signature then, as it's a 96 model year, saying it's a 97, even if it was registered then will be problematic  :-)
