« on: February 12, 2009, 08:20:18 PM »

Ok its time to sort out this carb, its running way to rich belching out black smoke. Only problem is I don’t have a clue where to start. Does anyone have a manual or link that would help, been googling for a few hrs and cant find a comprehensive guide

it's just a case of a fistfull of jets and driving the jeep or talk to a garage with a gas analyser and pay some money (i assume the latter is not the option)

you probably have looked at these.

the info links i used when i had my beetle, which for basic information which it is gives a good basis for a carb setup. you can go for an even better setup if you give the jeep to a tuning shop with a dyno but there again the choice is then yours. i was going to go the next step but then went for twin 40 kadrons instead which belched out nice blue flames from the top of the carbs which was better than getting it properly sorted in a tune shop.

glad the info helped

Hey guys, I've got a Weber 38DGAS on my 258 but it has always run like a bag of 5h1t. Does all the above mean can not get this set up working properly or what?

dont see why not, you may need to change jets but from what I have found out from asking here about mine, it seems allmost any weber will work as long as bolts on :-?  thanks to the help here I have established that infact I have a 32/34 DFT usually fitted to XR2/XR3i and it now runs like a dream. So stick with it m8.

the ideal weber is a 36/38 but as its mainly internal changes most webers around those numbers will work and will just need rejetting, the idle and low end seems to be a bit of a problem with them, most run rich and lumpy cos of the wrong jets

I have a weber book that covers the setup process, I can scan the relevant pages if this will help?
