WJ: Bad condensation inside my WJ Jeep!
« on: February 15, 2009, 02:17:38 PM »

I've found over the last few months that the inside of my Jeep windows are really wet.  The glovebox seems to have a lot of condensation inside it as well.  I'm guessing the front window seal or the sunroof seal is to blame, but has anyone else had similar problems before (and if so how did you rectify?).  Has anyone changed either of the seals?

if you have air conditioning in your jeep and its still working, during the winter months you still need to run the system to  keep it from drying the seals out. with an air conditioner system if you are running the heating system in the winter and recycling the air from within the vehicle, you will get a build up of moisture  within the cabin

If you think about it everytime you get into your jeep on a cold day your screen mists up cos of the water vapour in your breath hits the cold glass and condenses. so to reduce the vapour you need to do the same thing as you do in the summer, run the heater  but allow the heated and moist air to escape from the cabin by having a window open a few mm

The A/C comes on in a Jeep whenever the heater is set to 'screen' anyway wheter you like it or not. It also automatically comes off of Recirc on a Grand Cherokee at the same time. If there is a lot of condensation check for water under the carpets and find the source of the leak.

surely you mean it goes 'on' to recirc when the air conditioner comes on? The whole point in air con is to constantly  recirc the air inside the vehicle and chill it down. if you bring in warm air it doesn't work as effectively? or thats what the Air con guy i worked with told me when he did my air con top up

Not when on demist. Recirc is disabled to use air from outside rather than recirculating the moistire laden air inside the car to ensure rapid window demisting.

Sounds like it could be the heater matrix to me.

Don't know if this could be of any help but here goes...

There seems to be a separate (small) radiator or heat exchanger hidden behind the dash controlling your heating and it was suggested that this had sprung a leak. It was also suggested that to repair this the whole dash had to come out...obviously costing megabucks at the stealers if you were unable to take it on yourself.

Other suggestion was to pour some of this black radiator stopper sh*t into the system.  Although this seems to have its drawbacks in the long term it did the trick.  I did not notice any water ingress into the cabin or losing water in the radiator system so maybe I caught it early.

Cheers ! :-)
