Not sure where this post should go, so apologies in advance if its in the wrong place.  

I just wanted to see how everyone on here "stamps" their own service book when doing a DIY service?  I've got a 40K Jeep which I bought with a full (non-dealer) service history.  When it came around for its next service, I couldnt find a Jeep specialist locally and I refused to pay stealer money, so I did it myself.  Only trouble is now I dont know what to do about that all important stamp.  I bought one of those "make your own stamp" set things, and copied the details from the last company in the service book....trouble is it doesnt look the same  

I guess if I change the Jeep many years down the line, its probably only going to be worth a few pence anyway and the service book wont matter so much.  But, what would you guys do?!

Just write the mileage, date and what you did in the appropriate box. No point getting done for fraud later on.

If you want to keep the service book stamped the best way is to get the bare minimum oil and filter change in a garage and get it stamped, complete the work yourself.

yup...............i seen dealers by a good used moter and stamp up to the milage displayed and shifting it on ...the stamp is a guide only after all most of the minor services will have been done by  the kids in training

Keep bills for parts as well

If you want to be totally open and honest about the thing, (like me ), write "Owner Service, ...k Miles, + date" in the spaces provided and a brief summary of the work - ie: "Minor service - Replaced: eng oil, coolant, brake fluid, repl: oil, air, pollen filters,check cam & fan belts, track & bal. front tyres ....etc".
I put any reciepts in an envelope with the mileage and reg on the front and keep it all with the service book.
As long as you either look capable or have collected auto-centre type bills for the work you were too busy or bothered to do yourself, nobody can really complain - especially if the car is still a good honest example/reflection of what you call it when you come to move it on.

ive seen a few service history's created with a few pens and a dealer stamp. keep your own record and receipts, that would be better than nothing

I once asked a dealer about that. They get asked all the time, and the reply is the same - it's fraud. You can only get a stamp if you had it serviced fully by them.
