Power steering pulley
« on: March 20, 2009, 02:47:29 PM »

Power steering pulley on a 1991 YJ LHD 4.0 ltr inj   Early Howes import with KPH dials.

About 2 years ago I got an AGR pump for the Jeep and fitted it and all OK but I tried to get a new pulley and the only ones Lighthouse have are with more offset than mine????!!!! But it's their only part no so not their fault.

When I say offset I mean the pulley sticks too far forward so the belt flies off after a few mins...

Tried to research this a time ago but came up blank?
Mine is a plastic pulley and I would like to replace it before the inevitable happens!

Now someone in the Birty's community must know WTF is going on????

Strangely the AGR pump is exactly the same as the standard pump and if I'm honest I really can't feel the difference in the steering or the speed of my Hydraulic winch (case of 'Snake Oil" I guess.) The pump cannot be moved only in the in-out mode to tighten the belt. Guess somewhere someone decided to use a different front pulley assembly on early YJs
Or maybe its because mine had a replacement engine in mid-late 90's............

Only reason I bought it.... poor previous owner had water logged the original and there was paperwork for £2,700 worth of new engine and fitting and engine only had 23k on it just had to be done didn't it?!!!!!
