Tight U joint

I'm fitting a new drive axel UJ and I think it's too tight.

I inserted one cap almost all the way, then I inserted the "+" thingy and then the second cap tightened the whole thing with the UJ tool (G-clamp looking thingy) and then the clips. But now when I try turning the "+" thingy it's very tight. Is it gonna be OK and it will loosen up or have I fecked it? Have I pushed in the top of the cap or something?

Advice needed! If worst come to worst I have another UJ.

Thank you

You need to make sure the caps are pushed outward as far as they'll go against the retaining clips. If this is the case, you greased everything before assembly, and the clips are all fitted properly it should be ok.

I completely removed the caps and refitted them again being careful not to do it too tight and now it's nice and lose. But now I have damaged the paint on the shafts
