Door hinges
« on: December 07, 2009, 12:49:50 PM »

The drivers door on my 2000 Cherokee is starting drop a bit too much.  Can you replace the hinges? do you have to drill out the existing ones and put in a larger pin? Any suggestions for the best method for fixing droopy doors gratefully recieved

The hinges are welded to the body so first make sure they are not ripping off (unlikely). Have you tried lifting the door to see if the play is due to wear in the hinges?

You could try taking a shim out from between the top hinge and the door. If you loosen the 3 torx bolts that secure the hinge then the shims will slide out as they are slotted around the bolts. You can replace the torx bolts with regular M8 bolts if you find them easier to work with.
