The steering is normal, they do that when they're brand new and standard, although you could just check the damper is still ok by disconnecting one end and pushing it in and out to make sure there's plenty of resistance. I think that Jeep has a heavy duty fuel tank carrier on it anyway, I woldn't worry too much about the rear diff unless you intend driving backwards a lot, otherwise get a Dana 44 diff guard for £50-100. There's not a lot you can do regarding the steering protection, The Warn bumper provides some cover, but too much stuff will just get in the way.

Thanks Mike. Think I might just change the damper anyway 'cos I never felt that steering jolt on my 2 previous GCs. The steering bar across the front - dan bar ? - does seem to be quite heavy duty anyway & it's up above the diff as well so I'll keep my fingers crossed that I don't dong it !! Lol !

Was the heavy duty tank carrier standard or do you mean my particular truck had it fitted ?  Cheers     :-)

They all had a steel tank carrier but you could get a heavier duty version from Chrysler Mopar, which I believe was fitted to this one. They look identical except for the thickness of the steel.
