bigger tyres on 7inch rims?
« on: November 09, 2009, 08:20:00 PM »

i know the recommended biggest size on the standard rims are 31 /10 50's but has any one tried bigger? thinking 11.50? i'm guessing the will peak in the middle so pos wear on the road but how will they be on the lanes? aired down a bit will the be ok? dont really need ultimate grip at the moment just ground clearance so 32/33's would be better.

you will risk damage to the tyre if the rim is too small. i got 33. 12.50's on yj rims but i think they are 7.5 rather than 7. if you just want taller tyres just go for 10.50's. they are available in 33inch. if you dont have some lift you will struggle with anythin over 31' though. hope this helps.

if your looking at 33's for a 3.5"  lift then you will have to increase the bump stops or the wheels might drag on the wheel arches during articulation

been told this some where else!! may have to go 4inch! dont want to go to high as they always feel a bit tipy on the side slopes and with dogs and ferrets in the motor i cant take chances.

oh well may have to spend out on some wheels as seems cheaper tyres in 11.50 than for 10.50.

I have 285's on 7" rims, they are about 11.3" wide and I haven't had any problems over the last 15k miles.

I have a set of  31X11.50R15LT Kumhos on standard 7” Jeep wheels on my TJ. I run them at 30psi and they seem to be wearing very evenly for the 8K miles I've done on them.

I've just searched for Kumho and they seem to now market the tyre under their Marshal brand. :017:

The fronts wear a little on the outside edges but that's down to the alignment of my front axle, not the tyre and rim width. I'd say they've lost about 4mm from the original 15mm or so in 15k miles. I run them at 28psi on road and down as low as 13psi offroad with no probs.
