Poor running Cherokee 4.0 1992
« on: November 21, 2009, 02:44:09 PM »

We've touched on this before but after changing all the filters, plugs, leads, rotor arm, dizzy cap and thermostat I'm still getting the same problems. Starts Ok when cold on petrol but doesn't settle to idle so I assume something is wrong with cold start mechanism. When you give it a bootful to warm her up a lot of soot comes out the back. Hesitates on pickup from idle. When warm flips to LPG ok and pick up is good.
Doesn't restart when warm (petrol only) I also note that the electric fan only comes on when cold and turns off when engine warms up. THis is all starting to sound electronic so I'm stumped.

What have I missed?

My 1996 XJ 4.0 was running real shitty, cutting out, not starting when warm... swapped the ECU, lots better, sometimes it idles high so will try the idle control and throttle position sensor.

If you don't have a spare ECU/sensors and want any I'm breaking my old Cherokee 1993 at the mo... just pm me.

Hope all this helps Maf

Thanks for the spares offer. Contact me on neil.crook@ipgate.pl for post details and we'll figure out how to cover the cost of postage.
