Quadratrac and locking diffs.
« on: February 09, 2010, 07:36:30 PM »

Anyone on here run 1970's quadratrac on a CJ or FSJ with a locker in the back axle?
Jeep would never fit even the trac-loc LSD unit with Q/T as they said it interfered with the Q/T centre LSD.
I got a detroit truetrac for the front '44 of my 2 door, (alleged to work OK even with Q/T and permanent 4x4) not sure about the back.
Sorry to say not much point asking on the IFSJA as they are all busy fitting GM 14 bolt rears and then welding the diff with a MIG welder :icon_eek:
Must either all have long straight roads with no bends, or they only ever drive dirt roads out in Hazard county :017:

i wouldnt have a problem fitting a full on locker, detroit etc in the back axle especialy on a fsj. the effect on road handeling will be fairly light on a long truck. cant see any real issues with perminant 4wd either, in the front sure but not the rear

Howdy.I have Mark Gassers(RIP) old red CJ7.It has a full Detroit in the rear and a truetrac in the front. On road manners are absolutely fine.I would not hesitate. In fact it gets more road use now since I bought my Unimog than it does offroad use.

Cheers!
I was more concerned about the constant locking/unlocking of a full rear locker on that morse chain in the T/C

I've noted how BW quadratrac was never available with anything other than an autobox, presumably 'cos the T/C chain can't take the shocks from a manual transmission.

Looks like a "lunchbox" locker for the back then.

I undertand where you were going. This Jeep has had a full Detroit in the rear for the 4 years I have had it, and I believe for a considerable time before that. T/C seems absolutely fine so far.Thats all I can offer.

Good luck in your choice.
