Paint matching and bump stops and leaf springs
« on: February 22, 2010, 10:25:58 PM »

Hello

Hopefully 5 simple questions.

1. How do i buy red paint to match my 1993 YJ Jeep Wrangler for touching up a few rust spots

2. Front suspension, I only have a rubber bump stop on the passenger side, ie the diff side, am I missing a bump stop or do I only need one to protect the limited clearance on the diff housing or has one fallen off ?

3. Are my leaf springs sagging  / worn out, is there a measurment to check leaf springs, I only seem to have about 2" of clearance between axle and bump stop at the front on passenger side.

4. Any recomended suspension damper upgrades recommended, running 31x10 tyres at the moment with no lift, tyres do clear now I trimmed the flares back a bit, I am wanting a little less bouncing over rocks green laning and a plusher ride.

5. edited 5th Question, front little triangular windows have very very rusted frames where can I buy some new ones pls

Any help will be gratefuly appreciated

Go to the dealer and give them the VIN. Alternatively, Halfords, and look for Chrysler/Jeep flame red
(I think).

Thanks Tim will try my local car paint supplier with Vin number, btw Halfords don't list the Jeep wrangler paint or spark plugs but the vin number / make model  idea should be cool.

Bubba don't try to think too hard when pissed it will only lead to amusing answers or headache, hope to hear from you tomorrow )

Phone Jeep and get the paint code for it - then go to Halfords with code and they will mix it.

take jeep to a paint supplies ( not B&Q) and they will ahve colour swatches so you can match your paint. they will make it up in an aerosol for you as well.

colour matching faded paint... that's a good idea.

there should be a paint code on the body. normally on the vin plate and might consist of 3 numbers starting with a letter P.

most web searches say the paint code is under the drivers seat.

found this link

http://jeep.avtograd.ru/VIN/vin_en.asp

bumpstop... the rubber might have perished causing the bumpstop to fall off

the std steering damper is adequate and not that expensive

window quater lights.... lighouse jeep or from the states. quadratech / 4wd but shipping costs are always an issue.

leaf springs might be a bit worn

yes dave, if you use the original paint code, you get a darker colour generally so what all paint shops do is get the closest match and then add  to it to make it match exactly, just doesn't work with metallics tho and saves on a full respray.
