Paint ?
« on: March 13, 2010, 10:49:14 PM »

Looking at protecting the underside of the jeep a bit better and was just wondering what is commercially available for the job. Dont want to cover the underside with waxoil as that's a pain to get off and never realy sets. So looking for ideas on a good resistant paint.

what i'm looking for idealy is a smooth finish so when jetwashed underneath the mud etc just falls away easily

some types i have come across are listed below

smoothrite...... old faithfull
chassis enamel.....forgot the make but have used this in the past and it was good but i can't source some (update brand later)
halfords spray on enamel......looks good but too thin
bed liner paint....expensive  (not used it)
2 pack enamel paint ???
stone chip paint....is this worth it long curing time (still a bit rubbery on the wifes vitara after repair 2 days ago)

the yanks love the bedliner paint but it can be a bit harsh when applied by a roller, plus some swear by this POR stuff but even with that there are mixed views.

radiator enamel only available in white LOL.

might give it a go with the rad enamel, so it's going to be a multicoloured underside of the jeep

How about Hammerite Stone Chip spray on.
I did a salt spray test on this (and all waxoyl type stuff) last year & it performed great and looked neat to; also POR15 is good.
Unlike the Tectyle & Waxoyl type finishes these dry hard and can be jetwashed etc.
