A few gremlins.......Grand Cherokee 4.7V8
« on: April 03, 2010, 05:44:08 PM »

Hi guys,

My first post so go easy on me ;)

I've just bought my first Jeep and what a lot of car for the money it is but, there are a few little things I could do with some advice on regarding how to fix.

1. Radio has gone dead on the one occasion so far. Pulled the fuse and was ok so popped it back in and everything works again. Any ideas, as if it's done it once it may well happen again.

2. Noticing an intermittent noise from under the glove box, Im guessing heater related but it's hard to describe. Almost like something rubbing against something with a regular pattern to it but is not there all the time. You can do one journey and all is fine and the next one will have this grinding noise.

3. And this one relates to an electric sweet switch on the drivers seat. The seat back recline switch works ok to lower the seat back buit doesn't raise it back up again. I suspect this is a bad connection or a faulty switch. Any advice on how to remove and sourcing a new one would be most welcome if this is the part at fault.

cheers,

Leigh

1:  probably just a bad connection if it happens again repeat what you have done, if it works then the fuse connection might be poor.

3:  you might have a corroded wire in the connector, might just be a case of pullling apart and just cleaning

Thanks for the reply Dave.

Sorted the seat issue now, just a broken wire needed reparing but has now unearthed another problem.

I cant for the life of me mange to set the memory seat settings. Following the instructions it says to set the desired positions of the seat and mirrors and press the 'set' button. The light on the switch should illuminate but it doesn't and then puts the seat and mirrors to memory/driver no 2 position.

Does this mean I have another potential faulty switch or am missing something? And, if I need to replace the switch, anyone know how to remove it or the door card as there doesn't appear to be many visible screw fixings to undo.

cheers,

Leigh

not sure on the memory switch problem as its' too new for me.

the door cards ar normally held in by the closure handle (remove) and a screw in the door opener (might be under a cover). but the card itself is mainly held in place be push in clips, and it's a case of pulling hard and waiting for the card to pop off. they normally have a location lip that is fixed to the top capping so it will have to be then lifted off at the door window. don't forget the electrical connections as the wires could be short
