ABS Light
« on: May 20, 2010, 09:14:17 PM »

Hi all, I've looked over previous posts, but need a bit more help(having a senior moment! :icon_redface:). My 1998 XJ is still going from strength to strength! However I'm now starting to worry about the ABS, or lack of. The light has never come on at all, even during the start up check. The fuse seems ok(my owners booklet says fuse #25; same as brake lights, blower etc). All the relays seem to be present under the bonnet too! Tried slamming on the brakes, but maybe not hard enough, as I don't think I'm feeling any pulsing!
Also, I've no light for the handbrake! Have I got a lamp problem, or should I start worrying now?
Any help would be muchly appreciated!
Cheers, Col.

Thanks, yeh, that's what I thought. It starts and stops no prob, so when the MOT's due later in theyear, I'll put it in, and look innocent! :icon_eek:
Thanks, Col.

Hi all again!
I'm still woorying about this ABS light thing; I'm starting to think that it would be a failure if the light doesn't come on at all (for it's check cycle)? Would it have a better chance if I was to tell the tester that all the ABS gear has been removed, apart from the pump (needed for keeping the belts tension correct? ...or worse, am I starting to look at a BIG bill?
Any help, or even reassurance would be a great help. Thanks again, Col.
