J series sunroofs
« on: July 05, 2010, 09:47:26 PM »

Anybody know slightly more than bugger all about J series sunroofs?
I'm refering to the factory fitted jobbie lurking on my '81 2 door Laredo.
Roof damage is so bad I might just weld up the apparture yet, I dunno, gotta think about it a bit.
Pulled the sunroof unit out today, there's no manual winder, and no motor unit either.
WTF opens/closes it? Remote motor with bowden type cables?
There's no sign of one.
Then again this jeep is so fucked with (it had a panelled WOODEN headlining) it's hard to say what has been done to it.
Anybody had a Waggy fitted with one of these?
What opens it?

Glass slides back into a recess between the roof skin and the headlining.
Theres also a sun shade under it you can manually slide forward to keep the sun from shining through it.

This is the Jeep factory fitted optional extra.

It might sound flash but it looks FUCKED!

Billy Bodger who constructed the attractive wooden interior had been at it!

FFS this guy musta had shares in a silicone sealant factory :017:

Appart from the wood glue, expanded foam, and bondo that is.

Not sure if it will be the same but there is an electric sunroof in the 80 & 82 Cherokee and Wagoneer service manual found here...
