Transfer case - repairs
« on: October 15, 2010, 10:29:31 AM »

Transfer case is not happy, pretty sure it is the chain that has stretched, anyone know where to get replacements.  Also, is it likely the gears will have been damaged by a slipping chain, if so, are they easy to change or do they need any special tools to get them off?

Hi, chain won't slip it's a fuking strong chain , it will try and run back up the sprocket a few teeth  insted of running off the bottom then jump off with a bang, same as a slack chain on a push bike,  that's in 4 wheel drive,     in 2 wheel drive you may have a ticking noise coming from the t/c  as the chain taps the inside of the case due to it being stretched, you can test the chain through  the drain plug you can just see the chain flick it with a small screw driver if it  hits the t/c housing it's stretched.        hope this helps.............
