Finally lifted my JK, plus some words of warning...
« on: April 21, 2010, 09:08:58 PM »

So, after a few months away I've finally spent some money on the JK...

2" Skyjacker lift
30mm spacers
15" Procomp wheels
33x12.50x15 Kumho Road Venture MT's
PIAA rear reversing lights
Removed swaybar
And a new number plate :)

Before:

After:

Right after the lift and new wheels I was pulled over and given 3 points and a £60 fine (CU20) for a dangerous part, i.e. the tyres protruded from the wheel arches.  Bummer.  £250 later and I've installed some extended flares.  Eventually I'll replace the stock arches with Xenon's or something, but it's around £800 for the set.

And my MPG has been fun!  Prior to the work I was getting 38mpg on the motorway.  Now I get 28 if I'm very lucky.

Oh, and insurance.  Yep, was £250 per year, now £625 (and that was a struggle - nobody wants to insure a modified car!).  Thanks to Adrian Flux for the best deal in the end...

The good news - it was totally worth it!  Off road is now several shades more awesome, and on road it's a lot of fun and attracts a lot of (positive) attention.

Happy days!

:)

Looks way sweet Cleggy  :greggmo:

I take it u were a gobby fuck with Plod? Or was plod just a fuckwit? Straight to a fine  :jpshakehead: no advice to go home and get it sorted  :jpshakehead: where do u live? will make sure i avoid it!! Famous last words but never met a plod that dont respond to a bit of civility.

Anyway, mad insurance hike, but as u say, looks alone worth it so performance added in makes it a sweet deal

looks better,

never had an insurance hike when declaring modifications, i asked what will create an increase and the answer was modify the engine and the premium will go up. Bit of a bummer with an anal plod who thinks he knows what he is talking about.

any small or modified number plate will get the interest of the police. reason being the anpr camera's can't read the plate if it's smaller than the required size. easy answer if you don't want it to be read is not to clean it.

But then you might get fined for an obscured registration plate!

I got done twice in the space of four days at roadside checks for the US style plates I had fitted. The second time the policeman was not too bad. He explained they are no longer allowed to give rectification notices - seven days to rectify and get inspected at MOT station - as the Chief Constable of GMP no longer gives them that authority. :banghead:

At that stop HMR&C were strolling up to test for red diesel. I told them they'd have a job as the ball valve in the tank prevents petrol syphoning. :hysterical: :wave-fingersmiely: It was great to see them turn around and trudge back to their van.

wouldn't bet on it, system I work with can read all sorts, just how it assigns a country from the plate spec will be out, but they get the text

Nice looking!

I just wonder how road-going quad bikes get away with their wheels sticking out well passed their wheel arches. :017:
