Can someone help me with MPG readings on KJ?
« on: November 03, 2010, 12:31:34 PM »

My 2006 3.7 KJ never seems to return more than 15-16.5 MPG according to the reading on the "EVIC" computer readout thing.....

It occurred to me though that being an American car it might be calibrated to US gallons rather than Imperial which would give it an incorrect reading.  Given that an imperial gallon is roughly 1.2 US then this would seem reasonable economy for a 3.7 litre engine of roughly 20 Imperial gallons per mile....

Do our UK sourced Jeeps still calculate MPG based on the US Gallon??

Any ideas?

I find on my 2.8crd that I have to knock 10% off the figure to get the true value, based on full tank to full tank calculations.  On my old 2.5TD XJ, I used to add 10% to the figure.

That sounds a little odd....

Surely its calibrated on volume of fuel?

Maybe not I guess its probably better to just reset the odometer when the tank is full and work it out that way

 :iagree:

Probably all of the cars we have owned over the last 10 years have had some sort of multi-function computer type display for lots of things & they are all there or there abouts, but the only way to know for sure is fill it each time, zero the trip & get the calculator out  :icon_winkle:

When i bought my KJ i did ask about the MPG readings and i was told it was in USA measurments, and i was to multiply it by 1.1, that's one point one, which will then equate to UK MPG, or you can get it get it chipped to UK spec.

IIRC, on a KJ, if the body control module is configured for Europe it calculates in US gallons, if it's configured for United Kingdom, it will work in imperial gallons. A lot were delivered here set to Europe. The only way to check and change it is with a DRBIII scan tool.

I do have the choice of chosing US or Metric for MPG and Temp, no UK settings, when it a bit chilly i have it set for Centigrade and when the air-con goes on it's set for the other one Farin summat, MPG is set for US galls, can't stick reading KPL, i dont want to be a European  :wave-fingersmiely: , i am an ENGLISHMAN  :flag:

It says US, but if the body control module is set to UK the gallons are imperial, if it's set to Europe the gallons are US
