Grand Cherokee 2.7CRD heater issues
« on: November 25, 2010, 09:23:48 PM »

Hi all,

hope that all of you are keeping well here and that running costs are not getting you down!

I have a question about my wifes 2002 GC 2.7 crd. Recently the heater unit has decided to start playing up. I had a look at the posts here but mine seems a little different. Rather than stop working mine has become moody and will at times sit there doing nothing and then suddenly burst into life and work normally. Just as quickly it will then stop at a time of its own choosing. Can anyone suggest a course of action for this please? I can tell the difference between the front and back of the car but very technical stuff kills me so if you can please explain it in small words:).

On a similar note the heated seats dont work either but they never have anyway. The light turns on in the switch but the seats dont heat up. Any ideas would be a bonus.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has time to reply to this one. You are a good bunch.

Heated seats : one of the wires in the mesh has burnt through.  Heard of some people that you can solder them.

You can remove the seat cover and reveal the pad.  A scorch mark will mark the spot.

New pads cost mucho $$$$

Edit : just had a look on the Bay : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JEEP-GRAND-CHEROKEE-HEATED-SEAT-ELEMENT-PAD-2001-2004-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c17254b32QQitemZ120647404338QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Not as bad as I thought.

If you mean the heater fan, if you find the connector for the blower motor in the passanger footwell and have a look you'll brobably find it's all melted.

If the blower is only coming on intermitently then as Mike says it will be controller/resistor in the passengers footwell; giveaway is the melted connector. Leave it as is and the blower may jam on max. permanently (even with no ignition)
Get onto ebay.com & you can get the part & a new connector to splice on for about £100.

Hi all,

A final update on the outcome of all this. I finally gave in to the cold and took it to some chaps in North London (I wont name them as I dont know if I am allowed to here but they are nice chaps). The blend doors had failed so it was a replacement job. Thankfully it works fine now.

A tip I was given on this was to avoid selecting HI or LO on the setting as it prevents the doors from full travel. I am told that this prolongs the life of the unit.

All the best to you all and have a great Christmas.
