98 TJ Brake upgrade
« on: January 01, 2011, 01:41:20 PM »

Bought some new EBC Greenstuff 6000 pads for the TJ which will be fitted in the near future.

An old sage of this parish suggested that he may have a new set of discs that I could buy off him that he never fitted to his.... result methinks. Unfortunately, these discs dont fit our TJ apparently but this got me looking into some new EBC jobbies to match the pads.

This is where I am stuck, if I read this correctlty, then the best combo with the 6000 series 4x4 greenstuff pads are the GD906 http://www.brakes4u.co.uk/ebcbrakes_recomended_c.asp

Trouble is, unless anybody can tell me different, they dont do a GD series for a 98 TJ, they do however do as USR disc

Is this "USR" disc suitable for the muddy stuff or just go standard non slotted EBC disc ??

Cheers folks

keep the standard brakes!!! The other options will cost you much more mooooolar and absolutely no difference.

In my opinion the only upgrade worth having is the grand double pistons from Vanco - highly recomended.

Ho ho you want to see the rear drums off my 14 bolt............. 16" in diameter and 3 and half inch shoes.........and feckin heavy..... just took em off yesterday.............

Seriously if you want better brakes just replace the servo system with one from Masterbrakes $400 My YJ now blitzes the MOT with 35s failed before..... but was OK with 33s :jpshakehead:

Or just replace Master cylinder with One from 1986 E350.......... guys are doing this in the US for their one ton stoppers with 40's

Vanco is the top bollocks especially with power steering powered hydro boost that doubles psi to your foot if you see what I mean...but its a 4 figure do if you pony up for all the toys. :icon_twisted:

Arrrhhhha ...........the E350.....more fiction from Pirate.............

However can vouch for the Masterbrakes servo bigguns replacement......cos I got it........... very similar in pics is Daves Unlimited...... prob sourced the same parts....... the Masterbrakes has 2 huge resevoirs so disc or drum or convert to disc later with no worries about lack of fluid.

Just a lot of fluff if ya brakes are just a little bit taxed by big tyres........... Will work for me now I'm going to the tons and 40's but then I didn't I was going to do that till late August............... would like to say I was planning ahead but ..............no way  :icon_twisted:

EBC Greenstuff were the first EBC pads tested by Blaine for Vanco. They found the Yellowstuff pads (part number DP41255R for the stock replacement) were even better. They are what I am running now, and are much better than the last set of pads I had. Even better than the Yellowstuff is the new Black Magic pads that Vanco have available. I'm waiting for my Vanco BBK to ship with 10% discount (end of year offer) and free upgrade to the Black magic pads. :003:
