can any one tell me if i drop my transfer box about a inch will this be enough to cope with 3and a half to 4 and a half inch  suspension lift ive put on

not sure you will need that much with LWB, i put a 1" drop on my 7 with 4" lift, also consider putting in a double cardon instead, will absorb a axel drop and retain clearance. whatever you do shim the rear axle after the lift to get the pumpkin angle right.

Not a CJ guru myself, but I would think it'll be ok, but if you get driveline vibration you may have to tilt the pinion up slightlywith degree shims and then either lift the engine mounts or lower the transfer case to bring the transfer case output parallel.

your prop with single UJ at each end

double cadan has two UJs combined into a single knuckle at one end and one UJ at the other, this allows for greater movement when flexing

Go CV as the guys suggest....... means you wont lose clearance and you wont have to tilt drivetrain.........

Only must is to shim or reweld spring mounts so that nose of pinion is in line with prop.... but at  the transfer case end.... no worries at all, thats what the CV double cardan is there to sort out.

Only negative is that they(the CV Joint props) are more moolar than others but makes for a nicely sorted rig with no compromises.

The front can be at any old ugly angle but only if you run FWH. Off road it revolves so slowly you'll never feel vibes.

i run a cj8 same wheel base as you you will be fine with out but if you do get a small vibe as no two jeeps are the same you can either use axle shims or drop the transfer a smidge
i have two cj8s running 6inches of lift with no noticable vibes no shims no sexy drive shaft or transfer case drop i may have a slightly shorter uj life but not that i have noticed i have dana 300 tranfers and you a dana twenty but they set the same in the truck

Cheap option = shim

Expensive option = double cadan

sow what is the cost of a double cardon ?? and im not going to be gentle with this when its on the road off road / i spent a lot of cash now and want it to be able to take a dam good thrashing in the mud

Say £400gbp verses £40gbp but you get the idea.

I had a custom shaft made for a smidgen over £500 but that included a full length spline, double cardan and heavy duty everything

2.5 to 3 inch of lift and a hilux transfer box (which i think will be higher on the rear output) on my cj6 and i have had no vibration problems at all apart from those crappy sealed dana ujs get full of mud for fun so i would make sure you get a greasable one fitted if you intend off roading.

Didnt full size jeeps have a cardan on the front? If someone had one lying about it may make the propshafts mans life easier and the whole job cheaper if you decide to go that route?

Only the finest greasable dana spicer joints for me Mr IOM (apart from the Jap bits obviously) the Chi Chi UJ company in Beijing must be really pissed off with the loss of a sale to me though im sure.

Fullsize jeeps do indeed have a cardan on the front prop, and they are a HD prop not the pencil sized thing on a CJ.

Trouble is I just can't think of anyone who has one knocking around

I'd have a seizure before I'd stump up £500  :icon_eek:for a new prop, get a FSJ one or a CJ5 rear with the cardan and take it to IMS in Birmingham
for modification and a refurb

Greasable are far better if your car goes anywhere near water, i can only assume that you are just too lazy, cant you get your butler to use the grease gun for you,mind you when Jeeves mentions "grease nipples" you may not be able to resist eh?

Back to the subject If the lift is already on, cant you just measure the angle of your prop might not be as bad as you think?

makes no difference if the things full of h2o 10% at most!
