Engine light

The 'Check Engine' light came on in my XJ this morning :-k

Yeah, look to see if it comes on again this evening!  Some times they like to come on for no good reason and then go of again.  Just like to scare ya' I guess. :shock:

Probably knew who was driving it and was an attempt at self protection  :twisted:

The TJ did it once after playing in the mud, on that it comes on the next 20 times you start or something like that. it went again....

Aint been near mud since the last Ribbo trip mate, just started doing it out of the blue!
DId it again just now, started her up, went about half a mile, she missed a few times and started to spluter, went back to normal and the light came back on! :(

Guess you should start checking codes then (of course, I don't actually have a clue, but is sounds like a sensor is either going wrong or picking up something wrong....

Sequence came up as 1 2 5 2 2 7  5 5
And the codes are made up of 2 digits right?

Well that givems me
12 Battery or computer recently disconnected

52 Internal logic module fault ('84 turbo only)

27 Injector circuit isn't switching when it's told to (TBI)

Ok I get number 12, I get 52 although it doesnt seem to apply, but I dont get 27! Whats that all about?

Code #52 is oxygen sensor staying rich.
Code # 27 one of the injectors not responding to control signal.

Check the wiring to the oxygen sensor in the downpipe. If it's good, you probably need to replace it.

I'd fix the o2 sensor fault first and then wipe the codes and see what comes up when you've driven it again. Just check for wiring damage first in case they're related problems.
The uptream oxygen sensor is in the exhaust just below the manifold.
