2001 GC rear window won't close.....
« on: February 24, 2011, 07:38:19 PM »

Evening.
I was cleaning the car earlier and opened the driverside rear window ....wouldn't open off the drivers door so tried the rear door switch .....window opened fully and now won't close .....ARRRRRGGGGH
I've got the door panel off and checked connections etc ...... nothing seems to make any difference
If I activate the rear door window switch, the interior lights dim a little and I can feel a click in the motor....
What is my best course of action?

Is there anyway to  manually close the window?

I've taken the battery off to charge it overnight, the car hasn't been used for a couple of months ...... though it was starting fine etc, I thought I give it a boost.
I need to get this fixed asap so all advice will be greatly appreciated.

looking at the mechanism there are only 2 wires going to the regulator .....
several going to the switch but just 2 going to the motor.
Presumably the motor is made to spin one way to lower the window and the opposite to raise it.

If I measure the voltage at the regulator connector (the 2 wire connector ) when I press the 'down' button on the switch I get 12V.
Bit when I press the 'up' button I get nothing (I was expecting -12v)  ..... so could it be the switch?

I've tried applying 12V to the motor but it keeps blowing my fuses in my test rig so don't want to persevere with that.... how many amps would a window motor draw?

I've bought a replacement from a reputable Breakers .... the same ..... jerks when pressed down , nowt when pressed up....
Had the switch off & cleaned contacts ..... same
I don't think any voltage is there when I press 'up'
Where are the fuses for the windows?

It'll be a broken wire where the harness enters the offending door OR the drivers door.

Mr Pavelin....where were you when I needed you ?

It was a broken wire ...in the rubber gaiter, in the drivers door.
You're a giant amongst dwarves.

We figured it out tonight . Cheers.
