Oh Bollocks!
« on: March 12, 2011, 01:11:11 PM »

I've just moved my Bestop Supertop out of where I was storing it.

Something has stretched the rear window platic and also the drivers door window plastic.

Rear has gone opaque where its stretched so I'm thinking this is buggered (well I can live with it but :078: :banghead: :banghead:)

Door window not opaque but stretch won't come out.

I've tried hot water to soften it, but stretched square indent about 3" x 3" just keeps coming back.

Any inexpensive cures?

I reckon your best bet is to sandwich it between two heavy but flat objects and leave it alone for a month.

I'm tempted to show it the electic paint stripper, but I suspect I might go OTT and ruin it.

I'm wondering if heat followed by rapid cooling might induce shrinkage :017:

I'm  also thinking of two sheets of clear perspex + heavy weights on top, so I can spot any creases forming, cheers Rick.

Not a chance.  Sandwich it between two weights, if you can leave it somewhere warm that'll help.  Localised high heat will just make it worse - it's plastic remember.  Best option IMHO.

And don't even think about the paint stripper gun.......... :jpshakehead:

most plastics these days carry a memory as it were and will return to their original state. it usually takes heat ( quite high) to get it to do thatbut you have to be careful and not go to wild with it.
