My 1999 WJ V8 did the same thing.  Every time I put it on I was pumping more mist & moisture into the cabin.

Ended up driving wih the windows open to see out of the windscreen.  Was a bit nippy in winter.

Is it wat they call 'The Matrix' behind the dash that is shot ?

Cured it (short term) by putting this rad-leak-stop stuff in my cooling system.  Worked a treat.

Otherwise it's a dash out (mucho moolar) jobby.

He's right, it's the heater matrix. Serious coin if you can't do it yourself. Take it to a dealer and
you won't have much change from £2000, possibly even more than that. Even a backstreet garage
is going to be over a grand. Bummer. Look on the bright side, your Jeep may be unreliable, but at
least it gets shit mpg (that bit is humour, BTW).

Until it's fixed, make sure you keep putting water in the header tank, cus that's where the steam is
coming from. Don't let the engine overheat as well!

Had the same problem on my 98 Cherokee a few months back pain in the ass and as stated loads of cash.

I think the heater core was £175 on its own and the mechanics that changed it spent about 12 hrs in labour time although the book states 3.5hrs. My solution was for a temp fix by pass the core in the engine bay so you dont breathe in the mist from the vents as its really not good for you!

I had AA parts and labour cover on my Jeep so when it started happening I called them out to take a look at it then put in a claim. They picked up the whole bill from the garage, otherwise I wouldnt have not got it done not worth the money. I would take out the cover wait the 2 weeks cooling off period and make a claim against it save yourself a fortune! By pass it in the meantime so you can still use the Jeep.

The AA one only covers claims up to £500 but the RAC have one that covers up to £2000! Best money I have spent had 3 claims so far all paid for by the AA.

Hope this helps.
