Something I read about FSJ's is bugging me, 'cos it makes no sense to me.

1980 AMC/Jeep drop their flagship "Quadratrac" limited slip permanent 4x4 system for a Chrysler 727 linked to a part time or optional full time transfer box.

Different axles, (LHD front) new ratios, lockout hubs.

Done to give better MPG.

And "A more car like ride"

I can't really see how the ride is gonna be any more car like, except maybe the higher gearing.

Marketing hype, or better than the quadratrac  :017:

Assembly line / parts availability/ multi platform applications reason I suspect more than a designer thinking about giving a more car like ride

it was done for mpg and more car like handling re rear wheel drive handling like 95% of the home market
