The oil pressure light on my 2.8 CRD takes about three seconds to go out when starting from cold. Is this normal as I would have expected it to go out pretty much a soon as the engine starts.

Si,

Could take a few secs for the 'puter to process the data.

It goes out.......that's the important bit of your post.

If it doesn't ......"Houston....we've got a problem" :003:

Change the oil and filter (use genuine filter) and report back....

Thanks for the suggestion about the filter, guys. I suspect the filter isn't a genuine one but not sure if I can get my hands on one where I am at the moment. I'll pick one up on my next trip home. Is it readily accessible to change it?

OK, so I found that my local Land Rover dealer also services Jeeps and carries Mopar parts, etc., so I got them to do an oil and filter change and they checked for fault codes but everything was fine. But there's still a three to four second delay in the oil light going out - is that normal on the CRD?

pattern filters can be a problem on all cars and the cost from pattern to genuine can be surprisingly close. give it a week and see if it improves, one possibility is that the sensor migh have some sludge lodged (dont think of a big lump of crud) which will cause a delay in the sensor responding.

Yeah,  I forgot to ask them what filter was on it. But that aside how long do others find it takes for the light to go out?

not sure about your KJ probs, my 2002 CRD didnt do it but i can tell you that the Jeep oil pressure sensors are pants

replaced 2 on my Tj's, they tell you you have no oil pressure on start up which is a little worrying but everything is fine. Replace the sensor and all good  :greggmo:

I'll maybe look into replacing the sensor - is it a big/expensive job on the 2.8? I suppose not.
