Hi, for a first post, I suppose this is a pretty poor one... :oops:

I’ve just bought a WJ (I think) still trying to figure out some of the abbreviations…
it a late 2004 Grand Cherokee so I’m sure some-one will put me straight on that.

I’m in the process of fitting my origin B2 speed trap detector,
need to remove the A pillar Grab handle and A pillar cover….. this is to run some wiring..

Does any-one know the size of the little bolt’s that holds the handle on?
Looks to be a 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5 or even 6mm.
cant get a normal ¼ drive socket up into the recess, so am going to have to buy a small box spanner or something similar.
was hoping some-one knew the correct size, saving me buying half a dozen to try and get the right size.

you know this wj wg thing well i hate to be awkward but my old companys director had a wj that was acording to the dealer deffo us built and right hand drive it had a lot of imperial fastners on it to as i remember arnt wg made up af all metric fixings mike a litle help please i dont for a moment doubt your knoledge on later jeeps but this has had me wondering

seems to be a usa site but has been helpful

That bolt's a littl f*cker, innit? Haven't got anything that fits either. Needs a deep 1/4 drive socket or nut runner, the smallest I have is 1/4" which is too big. I would guess at 6mm or 5mm probably available from Maplins, RS components or the like.

Production of the RHD and LHD WG Grand Cherokee started at the Steyr plant in Gratz in January 1999. Models from this plant have a Y for the 11th digit of the Vin code. Vehicles from the US Jefferson plant have a C as the 11th digit. The European vehicles have some non US components, notably electrical equipment such as lighting etc from Valeo, but major mechanical components such as engines and axles were US manufactured. They were given the 'WG' designation by Chrysler Europe, along with Steyr built Chrysler minivans and Cruisers to differentiate between US and European product. Because It is a worldwide, but predominently US product, most technical and sales literature tends to refer to the '99-04 Grand as WJ across the board. Hence the confusion amongst people who unlike myself, actually have lives. I really need to get out more.........

went down to Halfords this morning, bought a little pack of double depth 1/4 drive sockets.... 4, 5, 6 and 7 mm

yep you guessed it, none fit, the bolt if you would kin believe it, is 5.5mm :evil:
