Prop shaft lengths?
« on: August 31, 2011, 04:04:46 PM »

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and I'm trying to work out if I'm in the right section, apologies if I am not!

I have just removed my old 1976 258 IL6 with the 3 speed box and replaced it with a 1980 258 IL6 and a T-176 4 speed box. However, the front prop is too short and the rear prop is too long? Has anyone tried this modification and dose anyone know what my options are ie: do I have to buy new props, modify the original props or is there an alternative replacement.

Thanks Simon.

I went from a SR4 on a I6 to a T176 on a V8, I opted to have the rear custom made (over engineered according to some  :003: ) and the front re-tubed. I chose that route because of the lift I have and wanted a double cardon on the rear but a re-tube on the front and shorten the rear would be fine.

there is probably a set of props produced to suit that box axle combo but unless you find some good second hand units recon rebuilding is your best bet

Thanks Nosebolt really appreciate the reply. Where did you get your props custom made? I'm guessing any reputable engineering company could do this job?

Thanks again  :icon_biggrin:
