Any top tips for spreading tyres?
« on: September 17, 2011, 08:24:08 PM »

Tosser tyre people sent 2 banded together and they are proving a twat to get on the bead  :banghead:

Leaving them overnight with wedges spreading the beads apart, any other top tips for seating them? I don't have one of those air tanks for blowing the beads on, seeing if some people I know may have one, but I really need to sort them tomorrow  :jpshakehead:

Cant you take them to a normal high pressure air line at a local petrol station, and take the valve inserts with you and do it that way??? Seems all they do is use the normal airline first until bead pops then insert the valves and inflate anyway

use a ratchet stap around the middle of the tyre and tighten it down. this will then spread the tyre out enough to get a seal.

ok you beat me by 20 seconds,

but ratchet enough to create the seal

Done that, I have my own fitting stuff & compressor, really need one of those air tanks for blowing the rim up onto the rim (or be brave/stupid & do it with an aerosol!)

ok then, is the air just leaking form on part or does it a major leak?
small leak between tyre and rim, ive positioned the tyre with the leak at the bottom and pushed slightly down on the tyre/rim to create a better seal. might work but there again might not

1/4" all round, tried moving the rim around but if you get one side tight the other won't seal

I take it taking the valve core out stops the whole valve blowing out if you over do it with the WD40 ?  Wonder how my GT 85 will do. Can't wait to play now  :greggmo:
