Towbar question
« on: September 19, 2011, 04:41:47 PM »

I think the answer is NO, but wanted a second opinion...

Does anyone know if:

A tow bar frame from a '99 GC fit a '98 XJ ?

A tow bar frame from a Mk1 XJ fit a MK2 XJ ?

Thanks

If the XJ is first registered before August 98 you could modify something to fit or build your own. 1st Aug on the towbar has to be type approved to be legal.

from experience a mk1 XJ towbar (mopar) didn't fit my mk2, there was a drop plate bit behind the hitch that bolted to the boot floor on the mk1 and the panel was different on the mk2.

I'll be able to tell you if the pre 97 towbar will fit a post 97 xj at the weekend as doing that very job myself.

I havent had time to do it yet but have offered it up and it looks possible, on the middle of the tow bar theres a bolted bracket at the back which would need welding on and the bolts removing and the fuel tank will need dropping about 1-2" to get some bolts in. The fuel tank would be able to be fitted back to its original position after.
