Best version of KJ?
« on: November 08, 2011, 01:42:21 PM »

Been looking at XJs recently having just sold my jap scrap but having a time finding something decent as a daily driver.

So, moved onto KJs. Whats the best deal? small petrol / big petrol/ diesel?

Reliability has priority over fuel/costs/poke etc.

Any input appreciated (before I end up with ANOTHER impulse buy)

Cool, cheers BF. Big Diseasel it is although the vast majority seem to be 2.5s though.  If thats a no go though how does the 3.7 stack up?

The 2.8crd and 3.7 petrol are the only two engines to consider, in terms of power and reliability.

The downside is the poor mpg.  I got between 22 and 36mpg (28 average) in my 2.8 auto, and the petrol one will be much worse (just like the 4.0 XJ).

I've looked a few times and 2.8 CRD manual would be my pick.

Ok so 2.8d or 3.7 it is. Another thing. I take it these things can handle a few miles on the clock. I`ll probably be buying an 80 or 90k miler as I`m keeping the Mustang so thats kinda limited me to about £4k or thereaboots.

 :iagree:

125.000 miles now on the Mrs. truck and MPG comparable to the WJ, can't fault it.

boo
well I can only speak of 1, but my 3.7 ltd KJ is ace, we have multi point LPG and get about 42mpg £ for £
mods are getting cheaper, and there have been some absolute bargains on ebay that you could gas from about £1500
it has towed big horse box with 2 horses well easy a couple of times, and doesn't notice the caravan we sometimes strap to it, just as well really  :icon_biggrin:
I really love mine, go to a few events with just AT's on  :steeringwheel:
