When i drive my jeep down the interstate and this only happens in forth gear, when the rpm's go over 2000 the check engine light comes on. Iv'e looked through wiring diagrams and tried solving the problem myself, i'm scratching my head on this one any help would be nice.

a whole host of things can get the engine check light on,you need to get a obd2 scanner and get any codes to see if there are any problems or used the ignition switch trick to get them.

You can get OBDI two digit codes by turning the ignition on-off-on-off-on within five seconds nd leaving it on the third time.
The "check engine" light will flash. Count the flashes Each code is a two digit code, so a (for example) 23 would be FLASH FLASH (pause) FLASH FLASH FLASH (loong pause)
It will never flash more than 9 times, watch for pauses!
55 is end of codes - it's normal.

See what comes up and check the codes out at http://www.allpar.com/fix/80s-codes.html
