TJ immobiliser. Again.
« on: April 24, 2012, 09:02:39 AM »

I knew it was only a matter of time, but the poxy immobiliser has now done the inevitable and won't respond to the fob. The only saving grace is that it's in my drive and hasn't left me stranded in the arese end of nowhere (I'm trying to concentrate on the positives!).

I checked the batteries and cleaned up the terminals in the fob, but apart from that there isn't much more I can do from here. So as far as I can see I have two options: have the Jeep towed to my not-particularly-competent and disinterested Jeep dealer and leave them a blank cheque, or get a PCM from the states and be done with the immobiliser.

New PCM is looking like the good option. Even if it takes a while and is expensive it's still likely to be quicker and cheaper than the dealer. But I've been in touch with a guy in the states with a good rep for this sort of thing and he says that he can't get the right part as it's an export only item. Am I safe to tell him to ignore the part number and just send me a PCM from the same year/engine/transmission?

Alternatively anyone else got any other suggestions?

Indeed you want the same year as your Wrangler but USA specification PCM...

IF you want to start your jeep, take the spade end terminal off the starter motor and replace it with a new one connected to a long wire. Connect another wire to the possitive on the battery and then turn on the ignition then touch the two wires together, once the engine starts part the wires. This should start your jeep. As a permanent fixture buy a start button from Maplin and fix it inside the jeep then connect the two wires to this. Ignition on press button engine started. Hope this is of some help

Hot-wiring didn't work, but resetting the system by disconnecting the battery a reconnecting it got everything working again.

The battery was a bit low - would that have caused the problem?
