Door conversion?
« on: May 28, 2012, 08:22:50 PM »

Is it posible to convert early type CJ doors to paddle handle opening?

I believe both the rear tub and the door body pressings are different from early to late.

I've found a mint pair of early doors in bare metal, but I really hate those 'orrible festering chrome door handles (mine are pitted as well)

I would like to point out that I'm not above a bit of bodgery using bits of other makes, as long as the engineering is sound.

I also have a brand new pair of late handles.

Can you not just get replacement handles?

You can get these for £18.00

No doubt I could get replacement handles but I can't stand the sight of them TBH.

They look like they belong on an old Willys truck.

Or worse.

I'll be cutting up a late type tub later on this year (rotten as a pear), I've also got late type doors but they're not mint like the early pair I got.

And what I should of added.

IMHO the CJ7 was cutting edge when it was launched in '76.

Automatic transmission on a CJ!
Quadratrac
Power steering.
New design stronger chassis.
All new bodywork (except for the front clip)
Factory hard top for the first time.

But the early doors and upper tailgate let the design down I think.
Almost as if the designers were worn out with all the other stuff and left the doors to the apprentices.
