Busy trying bits out - today discovered my front diff / hubs don't sound right.
Front hubs disengaged all is good.
When warn hubs are engaged and truck in 2H there's a definate noise coming from the front. A ticking sort of noise, not a normal one! Gets noticeably worse when 4H is engaged.
Now stationary - with front hubs disengaged I can turn the front prop shaft OK. If I hold one of the UJ's still and continue to turn prop shaft by hand, I encounter resistance every so often (about every couple of turns of the prop)
Turning the UJs they feel 'clunky' (not sure how else to describe it!) - not smooth like I guess they should be...
The UJs are not greasable, and I've disconnected the air line in case the diff locks were part engaging (although the compressor's not worked for years so was a long shot!)
Upshot of all this drivel - not a job I fancy doing myself!
Anyone know of a good (local ish to Grantham ideally!) place / person that could look at this for me...?
