New bloke needs help
« on: December 12, 2012, 09:51:59 AM »

Hello just joined the forum and am in need of advice.
Just bought my second jeep grand cherokee. It's a 1999 3.1 deisel with a 4 speed auto box. The problem I'm having is the transmition goes into limp mode ( immediat shutdown ) and will only select 3rd in drive and 2nd in 2 and 1. This only happens once it has warmed up. While its cold it works fine and changes smoothly. I have checked the fluid level and that is ok. There are no waring lights on the dash and no fault codes when plugged in to a dioginostics machine.
The only other problem I have noticed is the heater only gets warm and not hot and the tempreture guage only gets to around 70°c.

Any help would be very much appreciated thanks Dan

Is that the TCM I've been reading about? Seamed strange that it should work properly when cold though?

probably,I think jay has done 2 now one in his and one in his mother in laws and it solved the problem, you just need to get one with the later software so you read the part number and I think the last 2 letters change, he will probably pop on in a bit and confirm it
