You can just yank it off. Its held on by three plastic clips.

You have obviously done some research as you know about the black death, my mother in law had one and had the injector problem.

General stuff to look at, check there are no noises on full lock from the diff, Heated seats can fail, see if the heater works and changes settings as it should. they can creak after the car is turned off. its not a hard fix, but a negotiation point as are the heated seats.

If it doesn't feel right walk away, have you thought about a 4litre on LPG as well.

Its a WJ M8.

What mileage.

I could add a bunch of things to look out for.

And.....btw .... well done  :icon_super:

You will learn to love it and hate its guts at the same time.

For the heated seats pull the leather off and see where the wire(s) have burnt through. Mabe you can fix with a bit of soldering or look on fleabay for replacement pads.
For the heating search on here for fixes..... blend doors fubared  ...... worm drives in plastic whatsits gone tits up and all that Jazz. Also fleabay supplied.

I think the lesson here for us all, is that if someone is selling a GC at this time of year then it's because they're freezing their nuts off and been quoted £1200 by the main dealer to pull the dash and sort it. I got mine with snow on ground, I couldn't check the car as I bought it from a couple of photos.

This is actually very easy to sort out. Just Google 'blend door no dash removal' and you'll get instructions with photos of where to cut the thin plastic plenum to get access to the blend doors.

Inside you'll find two flaps made of some sub-standard plastic that even a Chinese toy factory would be ashamed of. They push fit onto the actuator stubs and take about 2 minutes to change. Get some metal ones from eBay for about £90.

I used a fine hacksaw blade and rag to cut the plenum, and when done sealed it with a bead of black silicon.

It really is simple, after doing this once I reckon anyone could do the whole job in less than an hour.

If, like I was, you're desperate for heat, as a temporary measure take the doors out and block off the two upper ports (I used 2 bath sponges taped up in carrier bags), this will divert all the air over the heater matrix, you can regulate the heat with fan speed and opening the window.

Good luck.

I'm looking for a WJ as well but a 4.0 with LPG fitted.

There were a couple of good ones on Ebay recently. One in Carmarthen and one in Bedford but both were sold before I had amassed the funds (which I now have). So if anyone knows of one I'd be interested to hear about it. Looking at around 2002-04 years.

I have taken your advice and blocked the 2 upper vents which is now giving me some heat I am not sure it is getting hot enough the hottest I have seen it is a quarter along the gauge can't remember the figure but is that normal, on most vehicles halfway on the gauge is normal thanks merry Xmas and a happy new year everyone Chris

Low temp reading suggests the thermo needs looking at..would also make the air from the heater cooler than normal. Carlos might be able to help there.
