Tyre change question
« on: January 14, 2013, 10:09:59 PM »

Never thought of this till now. Just about to order a set of ATs for my WK GC 3.0 diseasel.

Just realized these daft things have TPMS. If I get my local tyre guys to change the tyres how will this affect the tyre pressure sensors?
Where are the daft things? In the valves or what? To make matters worse. The stock 245/65s are being replaced with 255/65s. Normally I wouldn`t be giving a toss but I`m wondering now if there`ll be issues? :017:

Anyone offer some input before I splash my cash?  :greggmo:

cheers

The valve is a metal TPMS thing and I'm pretty sure it'll be fine but have heard of the valve caps seizing on

Yeah,it's part of valve so can be replaced with normal schrader I think?
But might be a dealer job to disable tpms on the on board computer just in case it goes into one :017:

Them tpms be dear to replace so might be worth saving if removed properly.

I had a car with a TPMS fitted and had no problems with replacing the tyres. They are part of the valve assembly (they looked like aluminium blocks on the inside part of the valve) and you don't replace them. Let your tyre fitter know they’re fitted as they can get damaged when he takes the tyre off and he has to put the wheel back on the same corner it came from, otherwise you have to retrain the system.

It doesn’t matter what size tyre you refit, as long as the pressures are going to be about the same, as they work by detecting pressure in the tyre.

Look at your bill at the end to make sure they haven’t charged you for new valves.

Thanks for the input gentlemen. Rang Local Stealership today and replacement sensors if needed are £63 a crack. So if it goes tits up I`ll listen to the ding ding ding and flashling light until I get new ones fitted. £40 to reset the sensor from the same dealer. I`m actually thinking of buying a couple and giving them to the refurb guy if shit goes wrong.

Plenty on ebay just search jeep tpms. Even sets of four for £60. Looks like two different types though. new valves/valve repair kits on there too.
