Drilling brake drums for a different PCD?
« on: January 24, 2013, 06:41:41 PM »

After a long search, I have picked up a small trailer capable of carrying a good weight.  It was a water bowser at one point in its life so has a heavy duty braked axle rated at 1.8 tons. Ideally, I want to run with Jeep wheels on it and wondered whether anyone has ever drilled brake drums with a new PCD. I know it's got to be done precisely.  The current PCD is 5x6" (or 5x152.4mm) which leaves me with a very limited choice of wheels (bedford CF) and certainly not jeep ones. I could change the drums to fit landrover wheels but at over £100 a drum, plus wheels, tyres etc, that's a non starter, and I want to keep it with 5x4.5" jeep wheels.

Any thoughts?  Anyone know where I'm likely to get drums drilled in the midlands?

Cheers, Graham.

He does indeed speak sense....but it's not an off the shelf spacer in terms of PCD so I'd have to get one made specially.  If I'm getting one made, my logic was just to get the drum drilled instead and there's one less thing to go wrong.

I did find a company that will make adaptors to suit, looking at about £80 to £100 for the pair I think...
