« on: February 10, 2013, 05:35:17 PM »

Whilst SWMBO was layed up with a broken leg, guess who left his KJ in the garage, undriven, until the battery went flat? All charged up, started no worries today, but  radio needs a code..and I haven't got a clue where to go from here..help needed..pleeeeese.

I'm in the same boat. I phoned the Jeep dealer in Essex, they said if I got the number off the back of the set they'd get me the code at no charge. :)

Baz, if your gonna take the unit out, get all the numbers off the back & then we can make a few phone calls to Jeep dealers maybe ?

Is it a RHD UK model ??

There are quite a few radio code websites too, maybe try a few more ?

If not, maybe e-mail Jeep in US  :icon_winkle:

Any Jeep franchise dealer can get the information of VDOC, it's no biggie...

If the original dealer did his job properly (which they seldom seem to do) it should be recorded in the book pack.

Mine was in the front cover of the radio handbook.  It's worth a look if you've got it

Thanks fellas. It is a UK, RHD Jeep, sold new  by City and Country in Worcester, but when I got her there were no handbooks/service books at all, just all the old MOT discs and the registration card for the key and lock replacement.

Will have a go today at getting the unit out and see what transpires.

Sorry to hear that about C and C. I finally found time to get the unit out, so if anyone is interested, here are the details:

Radio seems to have no brand, but part number is..P05064385AD

                                                                serial number..TC1AA1572J1957

Vehicle is Jeep KJ....former UK rego was VU52VXW

Vin number is...1J8GMN8793W524291

The programming buttons on the front of the unit run from 1 to 5, so any number in the code higher than 5 won't work.

Obviously I will cough up any cash needed to get this working, plus a few quid for some refreshment because I know it's thirsty work!

Have a look at this thread http://www.birtydastards.com/frm/index.php?topic=10677.0

This place seems cheap enough http://www.ukbookshelf.co.uk/page1.html

If you want me to have a go on the site for you or call a Jeep dealer let me know  :icon_winkle:

You should be able to pick any Jeep dealer from the phone book and just give them the serial number.

Sadly, Jeep dealers/franchises are like telephone books..very thin on the ground over here.

I've read and reread the thread by 'my other cars a jeep' and momos, followed the routine..pressing button number 1 allows me to enter first number of the code then the screen icon indicates ready for second number, but as soon as I touch button 2 it just flashes 'repeat'!!

I tried it just using button 1, but that was a no go as well.  :017:

My radio set up is exactly like the one in photo on the old post.

Thought this method would have worked
If your code was 8765, then press button '1' 8 times to the first character is 8, then press '2' 7 times etc until the screen says your number, then press '5'

What does the screen say before you attempt to put the code in ?

The words from the manual are as follows, they do work cos I just been out and disconnected the battery on my 02 plate KJ to check it.

"To enter the code, turn the key to the ON or ACC position and press the ON/Vol control. The word CODE will appear on the display. Enter your four digit code by pressing the appropriate preset button in sequence. Your radio is now ready for use."

KJ radio codes only use numbers 1 through 5.  numbers 6 7 8 9 0 are not used.

If you input the wrong number after 3 attempt the radio locks for 30 minutes with power on.

try this site for the code http://unlockmyradio.weebly.com/chrysler-radio-codes.html they charge £7.99, have not used it myself but they recon they can provide codes.

Good Luck.

Just to finish this off. Armed with Baz's VIN number & serial number of the unit, I contacted Jeep dealer in Cheltenham & the parts guy gave me the following options for his car.

There are 2 options, depending on the model fitted, the part number of the model me does not narrow it down apparently.

If entered by the buttons, the code is 1465

If entered by the volume control its 5245

Turns out the code 5245 worked on Baz's even though buttons were pressed, Baz can confirm the actual method used.

There was no charge by the dealer for this info  :icon_super:

Exactly as you put it Gaz..turned unit on..'code' came up straight away..pressed button 5, then button 2 and so on, until all numbers entered. The radio lit up and played music within a split second of the last number being entered.

Top marks to the dealer for the freebie..and bigger marks to Gaz for chasing it up. :icon_super: :icon_super: :icon_super:
