Verification of VIN number

To register my ex Iraq army CJ-5 DVLA say that I need verification of VIN details (as well as the MOD dispersal sale receipt).
I wrote to Chrysler UK and although helpful they cann't decipher 13 digit number as their records don't go back that far. They also said that they had come across this before and Chrysler USA, unfortunatley, won't be able to provide a dating letter either.
I can find loads of sources on line to decipher the VIN number as well as in books but DVLA need verification from manufacture, club etc.
Anyone an idea for a DVLA approved source of VIN decoding ?

I think Lighthouse were mentioned before.  Try giving them a ring.

Thanks but DVLA seem to indicate that it needs verification from a recognised  source. They say that is normally the original manufacturer or the dating officer of an approved club.
Although I'm sure Lighthouse would be able to hlep I'm not sure if their status would be recoginsed by DVLA  for the purpose I need.
As you can imagine if I don't get the correct paperwork then I'll get a Q reg instead of the age related that they say would otherwise be issued.
Anyone else managed to get an age related registration from DVLA based on a dating letter from Lighthouse ?

It's US manufactured and has an earlier 13 digit VIN that on-line decoders identify as 1978.
Biggest worry isn't getting a Q reg but avoiding SVA. I need a dating letter to verify if was originally manufactured in 1978 and then it's SVA exempt being over 10 years old. Without  such a letter  age is "indetermined" and SVA applicable with all the problem that go along with it.
I had a long talk with DVLA on phone and it was made clear to me that the dating letter has to come from someone they recognise (manufactuer or approved club official) and not just a dealer etc. Therefore I think Lighthouse might not be able to help - unless they are registered with DVLA as  such "experts".

Obviously then DVLA have their 'list' of approved 'experts'.  Get a copy from them and then you'll have a list of people you need to contact to get your letter.........

Like I've aready said DVLA are quiet anal and need someone who THEY recognise to provide a dating letter.
That means you can have a dealer with many years experience of the brand not being acceptable.
Past experience of trying to get another imported vehicle registed means this time I want to be armed with all the relevant information before I apply as it can otherwise take months to sort out - and that is with the insurance / UK MOT slowly expiring yet the car cann't be use on the roads !
