In the market for a Chevvy "V8" Something
« on: April 05, 2013, 06:25:01 PM »

I'm unexpectedly in a position where I might be able to replace my TJ 4.0L engine with a Chevvy "V8" something.  I say "something" as I know very little about Chevvy Engines apart from I believe a 350 will hook straight upto my TH350. I opted for a TH350 as a Chevvy swap was on the cards for the dim distance future, a future that may have arrived today!  Jeep drive train consists of a TH350/Atlas 4SP/Dana 60s. Am going to start doing research over the next few days however wondering if somebody might have one they may want to exchange for some cash.

Have a quick look at E. bay under Chevrolet V8 engines....... There is a lot of choice....

As I posted in Moving CPS.......

LS1 5.3 ......can be bought from bloke in this country ...... Remapped and sorted 6 wire 3 wire?
And with not much effort can be taken to 400 bhp..... Novak are your mates and will supply all the bits.....

Old school....? Well there is a 307 and th 350 for sale .....but Tis carb so won't work with you at 75 degrees..... And they're heavier as the LS is ally

EDIT.... Forgot to add the engine can be had in a lowly 4.8...... Although the 5.3 is the easiest to get....
if ya got more moooooolar then it's 5.7 which has a nice ring to it .......cos it's bigger.....
The last two are truck engines so torquey and therefore suited to our needs.......

Then there is a more recent 6.0..... Both car and truck...... And by swapping bits from on e to the other monster torque thingies can be achieved.
if ya just won the lottery then there's the Corvette 7.0 that'll challenge most axles UJs....
Whatever you do .....I will be envious and ......on your rig with camera tape measure and a bunch of questions.....

Have fun

Does your T350 have a standard bell housing on? Is the 4.0lr stud pattern the same as a chevy v8?

I bought an adapter from Novak to mate TH350 to 4.0L.  My other option for more power would be to stroke the 4.0L, but I'm thinking that an engine swap is a relative simple way to get rid of the pesky TJ immobiliser.
