XJ Engines...
« on: May 18, 2013, 10:33:37 AM »

I need help...For those that remember Woody the XJ ...he was a red XJ Cherokee that one of your members owned.
:die: Unfortunately he has broke down. Looks like the head cracked problems with pistons and valves etc. Im not a mechanic but need some answers.

Im looking at putting a complete engine from another vehicle but need to know your thoughts.

1. Will a R  reg XJ 1998 4.0li engine fit into my V reg 4.0li XJ the same ie engine mounts etc.
2.Does anyone know where I can source cheap parts. need a PAS Pump ad New radiator.

Any help or advice would be appreciated guys.

I tell you the last thing i want to do is scrap Woody.. i wanna sort her out if i can...especially as i just put 2 brand new tyres on him..lol..
any help or contacts for Jeep parts would help me.. I think the best thing i can do at the moment is source a donor engine and put that in...Ive found a 1998 and rang Jeep today with the chasis numbers..they have confirmed it should fit...something about the only differences sometimes were distributorless or coil systems...im not sure ... i need to find a radiator and pas pump...if you hear of anyone please send me details..

The only major change in the 4.0 came in 99. It received the wasted spark ignition loosing the normal distributor. You can remove the sensor and drive and fit your dizzy with no issue. The only problem lies with the head changes. The exhaust ports in the head and manifolds are smaller. The intake has a better curved design the will bolt straight on.

Yep, the later inlet manifold is a direct fit on the engine but the air temp sensor needs to be moved but there is already a place to put it , just remove the blanking plug and fit the sensor

Doh! No it is me being thick.... You'll be using your later inlet manifold which will fit perfectly.... My mistake.... Ignore what I wrote, too much booze to numb my brain from the Eurovision thingy
