Cheers, gotta dash to work now but will report back later - thanks for the advice again.

Not that I love teh truck, just that I've only just bought it and don't want to throw away most of what I paid scrapping it (good money after bad?)

Ive got a y reg 2.5 td for sale 65 k on clock , that said  "no bus" the other day when i decided to give it a quick run . Pushed the dash board and it disappeared . told a loose connection behind the dash ?? . All i did was pushed it in around the mileage area.a presto

My 01 TD did the same, remove dash, clean terminals, replaced and NO BUS disappeared.  Mind you got shot of the Diesel XJ shortly after and got a proper Jeep.  Think that Jeep is in the junk yard now.

Ben, I have a suggestion. If these guys can't help as and as your Jeep is in Chesterfield I can highly recommend this guy.http://www.peakjeep.co.uk/ He's looked after my Jeeps for about 12 years now. I know a few other Birties think very highly of him. Talk to James, very knowledgeable about all things Jeep including your VM, and most importantly he will be very honest with you

Hillbilly, thanks for the peakjeep details - I'll give the VM guys a bit longer but will definitely give them a call if I get nowhere, I'm guessing they'll be able to collect it too as hey're only a mile or two away. (mmmm, that'll be awkward, surely they're competitors that trained at the same Jeep dealership!)

Evening All,

So, the update is this:

I got a call a week after dropping the XJ off at the VM diesel specialists to say that she was fixed so I booked a train at the crack of dawn to get there by 8am where I was met by George the owner.

It started on the button which was great, apparently it was something to do with the alarm in the roof lining but that he didn't have the details as one of his guys had done the work. No matter, it was fixed.

£250 later (£400 if I include getting it there) I was happily on my way out of the town and towards the Peak District - The first steep hill I get to with a left hand bend I get the same issue that I had in the first place - the engine died momentarily and the glowplug light flashes on (& then off when the engine kicks back in).
Not wanting to bore everyone but two things. George has been avoiding answering the simple question of "Can you explain to me what was actually done in the 7 hours that you've charged me for, other than managing to reset the immobiliser"   I'm now up to 10 days and counting!

Secondly, the issue - If I nurse her the problem appears to be almost manageable (ha.....apart from avoiding bumps and hills in a 4x4) it's definitely worse if I'm heavy footed going uphill but it's also happened when I'm going down hill and hit a rough patch of road surface (typically with my foot off the accelerator).

I'm thinking perhaps a wire that's shorting (as previously suggested..thanks) the crank sensor (that I asked them to check.....no answer on that yet) or the PCM ( I read about the oem screws being too long?)

I'm also considering my options with the aforementioned.....I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt as he'd come on recommendation but I can't help but think that I've just had my pants pulled down?

Another day, another breakdown!

I had the exact same breakdown today  - I was approaching a T junction this time on a fairly steep incline and it cut out  - gauges went off - sentry key light illuminated - It cranked but wouldn't start. This is after a few judders here and there as before.

2 hrs later the AA turn up - I didn't expect much to be honest other than another 2 hr wait for the recovery truck BUT he got it going!

No fault codes etc as his machine wouldn't communicate but in a nutshell, there was a blown fuse in the power distribution centre under the bonnet - it was the ASD fuse which should have been 30A (according to the layout plan on the inside of the lid) but it had a blown 40A.
He replaced with a 30A and she cranked straight up - all gauges fine etc.

It did judder a couple of times on the 5 mile journey home but at least I now have some kind of clue as to whats going on and can get it booked into an Auto Electrician to sort  -( I'll be writing a separate report on the service I received from the VM Diesel Specialists).

So, with the above info, I'd be very keen to hear any pearls of wisdom from your good selves (even though it may be stating the obvious to anyone with a mechanical brain!!)
