Any one got any experience of this winch ?
« on: July 02, 2013, 10:34:53 PM »

Seems a bargain, but is it too good to be true ?

Keep in mind it would be replacing a superwinch X6 which has proved more than capable of dragging mine out of the poop on many occasions. Just looking for something a bit stronger and a bit quicker .....

Indeed its staggeringly cheap and the specs are good too. But they are so new on the market decent reviews are non existant.

keep an eye on the ratio's, that is quite a slow winch, compare it with the ratio's of other winches. also look at what you are going to do with it, if you just want a winch to get you out of a bog or the like then you can risk a winch that might fail under load, if you are putting yourself in a situation where if the winch fails completely,  your life is at risk , ie, long accents/ descents, etc, then you might want to spend a bit more on a winch you will be more confident with. frosty

Price all comes down to gear ratios, the higher ones are about half the price of the low ones. 218:1 is very slow, 165:1 or there abouts is what you want.

Thanks Irish and Frosty,
Just a reminder,

Keep in mind it would be replacing a superwinch X6

At 256-1 ratio, there's only one way to describe the X6 and that's sllloooow.... budget restraints mean £300 is the absolute top dollar I can stretch to. The Talon (basically the same winch but faster ratio) is Nearer £600 which is a pipe dream for me.
So slow speed is something I can and do live with because I aint doing winch challenges and this new one is faster than my current one.

So back to the original question, has anyone had any experience of this winch ?

No, but the Talon is just the EP9 from what I can gather and they are a good winch.
