Is it normal for Jeeps to mess you about ...
« on: August 22, 2013, 12:17:56 PM »

I've got the day off work today so I thought I'd tackle some of those fiddly jobs on the "to do" list of my recently acquired Grand Cherokee. Having dropped it off at the local Road Radio outlet I assume the stereo would at least be working today after some nice new tweeters were fitted. Oh no, new tweeters make no difference, the irritating noise is still there. Guys at road radio suggest a new amp might cure the fault. Possibly. So tweeters are now disconnected while I decide what to do....repair/replace....go for new/used ??

Having given up on the stereo I thought I'd replace the stop/tailight bulb  , went out with my trusty bag of bulbs only to find the bulb I removed has a weird transmitter type bit fitted to its base. What are those all about ?  :017:

So I guess a visit to the local dealers for some prices on amps and bulbs might be order.

Decided to give the Jeep a wash/polish instead. Only half way through waxing it started raining. Blue skies and yet it was raining  :jpshakehead:.

Some days I think I'd be better of just staying under the duvet  :peekaboo:

At least they aren't constantly trying to dissolve into a pile of rust like a Landy or make you look like a pikey (Shogun / Landcruiser - round here anyway)

The radio problem will be down to your bad taste in music.... what you should be doing is winding down the window and listening to the V8  :icon_super:

Im assuming you have an owners manual that will tell you about the bulbs?

1.  Don't expect the spares to be all that cheap:

2.  Just Empty Every Pocket.

3.  If is is a cheap part then it will recon it let you off too lightly, break something else and return to 2 above!

4.  Love thy Jeep and lavish it with toys and money 'cos it knows, or risk ...you guessed it, 2 above!

That's just the nature of the beast. Expect the worst and hope to discover something a little better.

Not wanting to tempt fate, but you're right it could have been a whole lot worse especially as I didn't pay much for the car in the first place  :strum:.

So far I've only had to replace two upper track rod ends (£55),  keyfob pad and batteries  , the rear exhaust (repositioning) and a couple of bulbs. That  just leaves the stereo left to sort. I'm also thinking of replacing the exhaust as the centre box is badly bodged...but ok for now.

That is it until my car decides it wants a bit more of my attention  :003:

Lol,

I love my V8 Also, beware though one day you look and think is it a bit saggy on the back then all of a sudden your fitting a lift.

You think, the Cherry bomb sounds sweet but but a full system would be nice and now your looking for a custom install.

It goes on and on mate.

Jay, I take it you haven't heard Nick's after his full powerflow stainless system was fitted? It sounds nice but now seems ultra quiet!! It did sound better with the cherry bomb in!

Nick mentioned it was quiet, I am going for flow master on which ever set up.

A small victory...the second keyfob , which was dead on arrival when I got the car, was playing up a bit after I had replaced the batteries and the keypad. At first it seemed fine then it stopped unlocking - but would still lock fine. I took it apart again and sprayed the circuit board with electrical contact cleaner , reassembled and tried the fob again. Still no joy , so I repeated the process a couple of times. The fob now locks and unlocks first press of the relevant key  :003:. I will still carry the other set with me for a week or so though...just in case it decides to lock me out again  :greggmo:

I've also booked it into my local Powerflow dealer at Redhill (Surrey) for a nice new stainless steel exhaust system - cant wait  :strum:

My Jeep is slowly starting to come together nicely  .

Just had a browse through Ebay and there are loads of these amps up for grabs ,could save me a few beer tokens - as long as they work

On a different note, are all the exhaust fitters at Powerflow like the girlie pictured on their website  :icon_eek: :icon_biggrin: ?
